Legendary Rocker and His Wife Team Up on New Song for Woodstock Novel

A new novel set at Woodstock is getting its own original song—co-written and produced by a five-time Grammy winner.


A new novel set during the legendary Woodstock festival is getting a soundtrack of its own—courtesy of a five-time Grammy winner.

Lisa Patton’s upcoming book “Kissing the Sky” will be accompanied by an original song co-written and produced by Doobie Brothers member Michael McDonald, with vocals by his wife, Amy Holland.


The track, titled “If Not For You,” will be included in the audiobook edition of the novel.

“Kissing the Sky” transports readers back to the summer of 1969, when Woodstock became a defining cultural moment. The story follows Suzannah, a sheltered Southern college student whose conservative father condemns rock music and sends her brother off to the Vietnam War. When her free-spirited best friendinvites her on a secret road trip to upstate New York for three days of peace and music, Suzannah makes a choice that changes her life...
